Principal Evering’s Message | Our Why

At the heart of East Lake Elementary School is a deep and unwavering WHY.

I believe that every child deserves to be seen, loved, challenged, and celebrated. I believe that schools should be places filled with joy, hope, safety, and possibility. And I believe that when we come together as one united community, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

East Lake Elementary was formed by bringing together three proud school communities into one new beginning. My goal—my mission—has always been clear: to unify us into one loving, nurturing Eagle Family, grounded in trust, kindness, and high expectations for every child and every adult who walks through our doors.

We are intentionally building a school where:

  • Students feel valued, confident, and empowered
  • Families feel welcomed, respected, and heard
  • Educators feel supported, inspired, and appreciated
  • Learning is joyful, purposeful, and meaningful

At East Lake, we don’t just teach standards—we shape leaders. We cultivate character. We speak life. We encourage curiosity, creativity, and courage. We empower our Eagles to believe in themselves and to understand that they have the power to change the world—starting right here, right now.

Unifying three schools was never about losing identity; it was about gaining family. Together, we are creating something stronger than any one school alone—a shared culture rooted in love, leadership, and limitless potential.

This is our journey.
This is our purpose.
This is our Why.

And together, as One Vision, One Voice, we will continue to soar—higher than ever before.

With Eagle Pride and gratitude,

Mrs. Wendee Antley Evering

Hello Eagle Family,

My name is Quai Stevenson, and I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal of East Lake Elementary School. I am extremely excited to work with each student and family in our community. I often tell children—and sincerely believe—that I have one of the best jobs because I have the privilege of supporting all students at ELES.

I am a proud native of Bowman, SC, and a devoted wife. My educational journey began right here in our community at Holly Hill Elementary School.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Newberry College. I also hold a Master of Education in Counseling Education and a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling, both from South Carolina State University. Additionally, I earned an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership (Principalship) from Arkansas State University. I was honored to be part of the inaugural cohort of the prestigious Orangeburg Leadership Academy.

My love and passion for education allow me to motivate students and families and to uphold the belief that every child can learn and achieve success. I look forward to a wonderful year in the Eagles’ Nest and to partnering with you to ensure that every student thrives.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Quai Stevenson
